Is it just me or do certain US grocery stores not have a wide enough variety of fruits & vegetables? |
When it comes to fruits & veggies, even MIXED veggies, I feel like I'm eating the same stuff all the time. Some grocery stores just don't had a wide variety these days. Whole Foods does though! Whole Foods is the best grocery store ever! I think it goes with the territory. I live in California. Right now, we're getting either hot house or Southern Hemisphere tomatoes and other fruits/vegetables. We also have local fruit/vegetable stands that sell local produce. They're closed 9 to 9.5 months a year. I've anxiously been watching the Cornucopia fruit stand. They should be opening soon, and they'll be selling local 'cots (both white and yellow), fava beans, snap peas, green beans, and on and on. There are specialty markets in my area that have a LARGE variety of produce, but it's imported from who know where. you are not the only one, i feel the same way. and it's mainly at walmart. they have a poor selection and also what they do have, is usually bad. i have been disappointed the last several times while shopping there. i'm thinking of paying a visit to the local produce market, perhaps i will find more variety there and hopefully it will be ripe and not rotten. I agree that in many parts of "Jesusland" fruits and veggies are hard to come by... They make up for it with volumes of red meat... i totally agree. thank goodness we're going into summer, so at least there will be a little bit more variety. i wish i could grow things myself, but so far herbs are all i've been able to keep alive...... YES!!! There are veggie ingredients I can never find. My local stores have a serious lack in herbs too. I can only find dill, basil, thyme, that's about it. What's up with that?!! Stores carry and farmers produce what sells. Just like any other business. I can only speak for my locale but I never have trouble finding things. I live in Chicago and between all of the ethnicities being catered to, you can always find what you need. I'm with you on that one. The fruits and veggies are also incredibly over priced, I love being healthy but its just not possible with $3 for one avocado on a student salary totally agreed. most of the major chains don't have great selection or quality... :( I agree. although it's a bit better in summer than winter. |
