Are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat the same as omega 3 and 6?

I like taking a essential fatty acid supplement for health and I work out. From what I read omega3 is polyunsaturated and omega6 is monounsaturated? I know this is a deep question that probly no one knows but if I just bought a bottle of canola oil with poly and mono wouldnt it be the same thing as spending big $ on a product that claims it has omega3 and omega6?

If something contains Polyunsaturated fat, then there will be Omega 6 and 3 present.

In the typical western diet, there is an imbalance. People generally need to make sure they are getting adequate Omega 3 ;-)

You should not be taking supplements without knowing what you are doing-----in fact, I cannot think of a reason for anyone to take dietary supplements at all. Just eat a reasonable diet and you will get everything you need without suplements.

n鈭? fatty acids (popularly referred to as 蠅鈭? fatty acids or omega-3 fatty acids) are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids which have in common a carbon鈥揷arbon double bond in the n鈭? position; that is, the third bond from the end of the fatty acid.

Important nutritionally essential n鈭? fatty acids are: 伪-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). For a more complete list, see list of n鈭? fatty acids. The human body cannot synthesize n鈭? fatty acids de novo, but it can form 20- and 22-carbon unsaturated n鈭? fatty acids from the eighteen-carbon n鈭? fatty acid, 伪-linolenic acid. These conversions occur competitively with n鈭? fatty acids, which are essential closely related chemical analogues that are derived from linoleic acid. Both the n鈭? 伪-linolenic acid and n鈭? linoleic acid are essential nutrients which must be obtained from food. Synthesis of the longer n鈭? fatty acids from linolenic acid within the body is competitively slowed by the n鈭? analogues. Thus accumulation of long-chain n鈭? fatty acids in tissues is more effective when they are obtained directly from food or when competing amounts of n鈭? analogs do not greatly exceed the amounts of n鈭?.

n鈭? fatty acids (popularly referred to as 蠅鈭? fatty acids or omega-6 fatty acids) are a family of unsaturated fatty acids which have in common a carbon鈥揷arbon double bond in the n鈭? position; that is, the sixth bond from the end of the fatty acid.

The biological effects of the n鈭? fatty acids are largely mediated by their interactions with the n鈭? fatty acids
