I do not eat eggs or any form of eggs, I am a lacto-vegetarian what is the substitute for meringue powder ?

I am Jain by religion, I do not use gelatin or any form of egg.

It depends on what you're using it for. If it's in an icing recipe, for example, you can substitute Ener-G egg replacer. http://www.healthyheartmarket.com/browse... Vegans swear by it, lol.

If you're looking for a substitute for an egg WHITE in a recipe (again, this is from an icing recipe), you can use this: Dissolve 1/4 oz. unflavored gelatin [depends upon strength of brand] in 1 1/4 cups hot water. Let sit until cold BUT not set. Four teaspoons of this mixture is approximately equal to 1 egg white. It should be used in exactly the same way as egg white in a royal icing recipe.

I don't know much about meringue powder, but I know that preparing this stuff will be successful if you're making royal icing or something like that. As far as meringue such as for a lemon meringue pie, I don't know of any substitutes, but I found an article by guy who tried made it with less egg whites, and he suggests using powdered Egg Replacer (a.k.a., Ener-G) and whipping it up for that kind of meringue. Here's the site: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0...

I hope that helped! :)

Meringue is just one of those things that relies exclusively on the unique properties of egg whites. There is really no non-egg substitution.

egg whites are the only other option. So I don't think this recipe is for you unfortunatly.

There is no substitute. You'll have to make something different.

I can't think of any but what are you making? can it be left out(cake icing.. make a different type)
