How can we help a friend or family member who is eating a distructive diet?

This is a rewording of my question from before about my friend who eats mainly bacon and other very fatty meats. I'm not one that wants to force my beliefs on others, but this guy is a ticking time bomb.

I deleted it because some of my friends kept adding to it they were all in my dorm room at the same time. sorry

You don't know for sure what his health status is unless there is more than what you post. Some people with little knowledge of anything think they are Professors of Geriatrics (when he will get old, he wont be able to walk normally anymore. even getting out of the bed will be a big challenge. then he will have serious heart problems and other stuff.) That was real intellectual yes?

So have a heart to heart and tell them you love them you think a better diet will help them be around for you a long time and if you did not love them you would not be concerned about them. You would be glad to share what you have found out about diets anytime they wish. Then just let them choose.

You can talk until you're blue in the face but the person isn't going to change unless they want to. I think you need to work on helping this person care about themselves.

Whether or not you have a friend like that actually is not related to my answer. It goes for anyone.

So why did you delete the other question?

BS

tell him that when he will get old, he wont be able to walk normally anymore. even getting out of the bed will be a big challenge. then he will have serious heart problems and other stuff.

sounds like he doesnt really cares for himself. maybe you could give him some emotional support. and when you tell him something how harmful this is remember to never yell. just tell him nicely how old people suffer cause they werent eating healthy.

or he can switch to fish, sea food, its more healthy.

Maybe have a talk with the person and tell them that you are concerned about the way that they eat. You can take them to a hospital and have a chat with a doctor that is a heart doctor and a nutritionist.

print off some information from the internet about how fatty foods w/high saturated fat, cholesterol, and salt content can block his arteries.

print off pictures and stories from people who have landed in the hospital too.

hopefully this will get his attention!!

get the DVD "super size me" and make him watch it....

take out a life insurance policy on him and let him know it...tell him to keep eating cause you need the money...might make him mad enough to think about it and stop...

you can't change his way of thinking. you can inform him of the health risks, but you can't force feed him or make lifestyle changes for anyone else.

yeah, and you call me a troll for asking a real question. you should get a life.

Tell them you care about them and their actions affect them.

Yes you are forcing your beliefs on others if you continue with that attitude. Under what medical education are you basing that fact of a ticking time bomb on? My grandfather ate bacon every morning for breakfast until he died at 95 I guess his time bomb was running slow. Half of what veggie-terrorists on here say (preach) is wrong. Don't hate me there is nothing wrong with eating better that is a noble thing you do. Just don't get fanatical where you drive people away from you. Moderation in your approach to others and how they choose to live their lives will reward you with good friends and hopefully a long life. Don't let others here talk you into loosing a friend you obviously care about.
