How do I get my son to sleep in his own bed?

My 19mo has slept in my bed since the day he was born, mainly bc I can't get him to sleep in his own bed. I try moving him after he falls asleep, but he wakes up. I try lying next to him in his little car bed, but we won't sleep. Any suggestions?

I read the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth, MD. He deals with this issue at all different ages. I thought it was a fabulous book and it worked for me. I moved my son out of our bed when he was 4 months old. I realize that your situation is a lot different and will probably be much more difficult. But this book offers lots of different suggestions. It was hard for me, my son cried for a couple of hours for the first three nights, but after that he learned to fall asleep by himself and it was completely worth the heartache for those few nights. We are both better off for it! I highly suggest this book.

As they say, every child is different. My way to get my son in his own bed was for me to sleep with him for the first few nights. He thought this was cool and time for us to stay up all night and talk so after a few minutes, I simply rolled over and stopped talking and pretended to fall asleep. It takes lots of tries, maybe but be patient,It will eventually work.

There will be many many suggestions to get your child to bed on his own....the only one that will work....will be the one that works for you.
You may have to try different ways for it to work for him.
I have read every book I have requested different suggestions....and I have to say....every child is different...so you need to find what works for your baby....
Have you tried "The Nanny's" idea? You place your child in its bed...you sit by his side and you ease your way out the door slowly each night.
Good luck
