How can I stop my 16 month old toddler from bouncing in his cot at night ?

From about 2 months my toodler is bouncing in his cot at night after been wokin up. He will continue to bounce for hours. We try to put him to sleep but without succss. Please someone can help as.

If he's happy and doesn't disturb anybody then don't worry too much. Its probably just a phase and he'll grow out of it, eventually.

As a suggestion, if he's still having more than one daytime nap, cut it down to just one, after an early lunch. Our youngest is just over 2 and still naps most days, between 12.30 and 2.30pm. If she misses it she's too tired to stay awake past 6pm and if its any later/longer she can't settle until after 8pm!

Toddlers do have a period of time in which they wake in the middle of the night. All 3 of our children have done this at some point, but it is just a phase. Adjust his routine a little so that he's obviously tired when he goes to bed. Do your best not to disturb him after he's asleep (don't go in and check on him as he will "hear" that you are there).

Keep his room quiet and dark so that he understands that its nighttime not playtime. Leave him to get bored - ie: don't interact for more than a few seconds, don't talk to him, just "shushh" him. Lay him back down and leave the room. Eventually, he'll get the message.

Keep everything calm and low-key.

the best way for your todd to have a good nights sleep is routine during the day... being firm, so if he does wake up at two o clock, put him back to bed without talking to him, so he understands that its bed time...
also a great way is to tire them out during the day, so lots of exercise and running about, plenty of fresh air so maybe a trip to the park.
at around bedtime when you try to calm him down, tell him to sit down and give him warm milk, it will calm his mind and make him really tired... this way he should sleep through the night...
good luck!

he may not know how to lye back down? what about trying a safety sleep too they make it so they cant get up. the jo frost super nany book has some good tecniques for toddlers and bed time
