How old was your child when you took the bed rail off of the bed? |
My daughter will be three in October and I can't figure out when to take the bed rail off of her twin bed. I don't often find her sleeping against it, so I doubt she will fall out if I remove it. Thoughts? I kept the bed rail on for a pretty long time. Is there a reason you want to remove it? Does it bother her? Do you need it for some other child? If there's no reason to remove it, I'd leave it there for at least another year. You can talk to her about it. If she falls out of bed, chances are she'll be fine. I'vd even found my kids on the floor sound asleep, having fallen out of bed and not even woken up! I think the bed rail is a precaution because the kid could get hurt but, I don't think it's a big risk. My kids were about 5 when I removed the rail. I put my son in a toddler bed at 11 months and I took the rail away by 18 months. 21 months old, because when we put him in his toddler bed, we didn't use a rail, but why mess with a good thing? I'd leave it on there until she tells you she doesn't want it. My BFF's son was three last month and he still sleeps in his crib. If she's not sleeping against it, then take it off. I always worried about their sheets getting caught up in it or them hurting themselves when they tried to get up to got potty. If you're worried that she'll fall out, then throw some pillows on the floor by her bed for a few days until you are both comfortable. It really depends on your child. My daughter didn't even get out of her crib until almost 3, and she's now 3 years and 3 months and we took the rail off about 3 weeks ago. She hasn't fallen out yet! My kids lost their bedrails pretty early, probably about 2 years old. They were sleeping in normal beds from birth (we coslept) so they were probably more used to staying in the middle. I never had a problem with them rolling off the bed. I was more worried about a child climbing over the bedrail than falling off the bed. Falling off the top of a bedrail is a much higher drop. As soon as they were climbing, the rails were gone. None of our kids had bedrails. They went straight from a crib (cot) at about 12-15 months into a full sized single bed. |
