When you begin toilet training when do you start using the cotton underwear in the plan of things?

Right from the start or after they have sat on the toilet and used it for a few times ?
I will not be using pull ups, diapers will be used at nap time and extended time away.

i tried underwear right from the start and it didn't work but I am pretty sure he just wasn't ready. Pullups never worked either. I was consistent with the underwear and it paid off in the end. A lot of clean up but it was worth it. My 3 year old son only has the occasional accident at night now.

I waited a few weeks into potty training until my daughter sat and went on the potty a few times. Then we introduced the underwear, she got very upset when she wet them because it ran down her leg. I think that the underwear helped the traning process.

I never used pull ups.. or disposable diapers, my kids were trained before they were 2 years old, they knew the difference between wet and dry. Cloth diapers are an excellent middle step the technology in disposables is so good now kids don't know the difference between wet and dry. If you have a boy... my mom swore by letting them pee in a coffee can... it made noise and once they did it once they loved to do it again. My family jokes that with my boys i put them out naked in the spring and brought them in trained in the fall, not everyone lives out in the country and can let their kids run around with no pants. i went from diapers to light cotton undies....its kind cool... your kid drops a size when you get rid of diapers

In the beginning when we were at home my son actually ran around naked, that way he could just sit down and go whenever he felt like it. I did this for a few weeks and them started putting underwear on him. He is now 33 months and only wears a diaper at night time and nap time. I do use a pull up for long car trips but he usually stays dry, he gets upset if he has an accident.

I used the cotton training pants right away. That helps them realize if they don't get to the potty in time they may be uncomfortable. Then when they started to get it we moved to underwear or underpants.

From the start use pants.diapers for a sleep but invest in a travel potty good for the car and shopping trips.
