What are the signs of stalking after you reject someone romantically?

Say you never had any interest in this person at all. You've never given this person any clue that you might be interested in them. And the person latches onto you and always mysteriously appears wherever you are, even at your job. How do you know it's stalking? What can you do about it, short of calling the police to handle it?

More details: Say you already told the person you aren't interested, and the person says, "Well that's ok, I'll settle for being your friend." And you don't even want to be friends with the person.

You are obviously very bothered by this other person's actions and that should be clue # 1 that something is wrong!!
First, he should NOT be at your job or latching onto you. But you must first let that person know as well, that you feel a bit uncomfortable with thier behavior. Be nice about it and make sure you talk to them in a public place if you are scared to talk anywhere else. Let them know you are not mad or anything, but you feel like they are purposefully following you and you would just like to be left alone. And tell them that if this behaviour does not stop, you feel that serious action such as a restraining order will be put against them.
If they deny following you and claim it is a coincidence, than wait a day or two to see if they continue. If you let it be known you are on to him/her, sometimes creeps will back off.

AND, while you wait to see what thier next move is, have a friend, relative or other trusted figure accompany you to and from the places you know they have followed you to. If the person continues, get a restraining order, watch your back especially at night, and just call the cops if he shows up at your job. That should be enough.
If he starts to only get worse and leans towards violence or threatens you, you should go to the police and let them know you think your life is in danger. They might be able to take further action and offer u protection.

Tell the person that they are behaving like a stalker and that if they continue to do so, you will be forced to accept that they ARE a stalker and report them to the police and get a restraining order and those don't look good.

Tell him to his face that his attentions are unwelcome. If he persists, tell him you'll be contacting the police, and if that doesn't work, do it.

Um, if someone is following you with black hefty bags, rubber gloves and duct tape....well...you see the point

If you feel harassed and it is unwelcome advances/attention, then it is stalking. ESPECIALLY if they show up at your job/house/places you go, or if you start seeing this person everywhere you go, and they follow you and show up in strange places at odd hours, such as outside your bedroom window at midnight, or are waiting in front of your work when you leave, or are parked somewhere watching you, then definately call the police, take out a restraining order, get their liscense plates, do whatever you have to in order to get this creep put away. It is gonna be kinda hard since you dont know them and dont know what their intentions are, i mean, other than them romantically liking you, but for sure, call the police. No one should have to go through that.
