What's the difference between keeping in touch / long distance and having a long distance relationship?

Are they the same thing, or the type of things you refer to are different?

They are completely different.

To help you understand, take the distance out of the equation. There is a difference between just keeping in touch and having a relationship, isn't there? In a relationship [[whether there is distance involved or not]] two people are still committed to each other.

Long distance relationships require a lot of work, and are definitely not for the weak-minded. For some people they ARE possible, but for other people they are not.

A LDR evolves when you are dating someone but can't see them frequently because you are far apart, but you do make regular planned trips to see each other. Plus generally you aren't dating around in the meantime.
Staying in touch means you email or text once in a while to talk about things, and when they happen to be around you go out on a date, or not....no rules, and no strings.

well, keeping in touch is talking on the phone or online every now and then.
Long distance relatioinships are trying 2 be boyfriend and girlfriend, and being real far apart

a long distance relationship is where ur dating but live far away. this means, u dont date other ppl. u talk everyday. keeping in touch means someone moves away and then their friends call them or email them every once and a while to see how they're doing.
