What are the chances of a bachelor over the age of 40 ever marrying?

I've recently joined the online dating community and have seen quite a few men over 40 who have never married. What are your feelings as to whether or not these guys would ever seriously be able to commit? Is there a certain age at which you can figure they're committed to bachelorhood and dating forever, rather than settling down to one woman?

You asked 2 separate questions:
1.What are the chances of a bachelor over the age of 40 ever marrying? Not impossible, but I wouldn't count on it if they've made it to that age and never chosen to take that step. Some people just don't feel the need for marriage.

2. What are your feelings as to whether or not these guys would ever seriously be able to commit? They've probably commited before and will again. Never having married doesn't mean a person cannot or will not commit. Just means they've chosen not to marry. I've known a number of non-married couples who had more solid and loving relationships than a lot of married couples I've known.

My personal view is that if I were desirous or open to a serious relationship, I'd have no trouble dating a guy like you describe if he'd been in one or more serious, long term relationships in the past. If he'd never been in anything serious, or never had anything that lasted over a few months, then I wouldn't consider him for anything other than friend or a sex buddy.

There is no hard-set age at which it is safe to say that a guy will never marry. You will have to meet him and find out why he never married and what his feelings on commitment are. Don't ask on the first date -- LOL.

You will probably find out that he has reasons that most of us women have -- haven't found the right one yet, worked hard on getting career started.. etc. Most men nowadays want to make sure that they are settled with themselves before settling down.

assuming the man has no baggage which can be children, drugs, alcohol, poor job and on and on and lets assume hes a good person with respect, intelligence i would say there are many good ones that have had the experience and would know from that how to avoid future problems or mistakes that he may have had in the past.

They probably have hang-ups if they never married. ie: baggage, bad habits, etc.

40 is the new 20.

I feel the same, I can not help but wonder: what is wrong with these guys? I take a second look sometimes.....

when they find the right person, they will be willing too
