What's the difference between ''french kiss'' and ''a kiss'' ?

Whats so special in a french kiss, and why its called french kiss..
and how is a french kiss?
Im so confused.

According to the American Heritage dictionary:

French kiss
n. A kiss in which the tongue enters the partner's mouth.

Why is it called that? According to IdiomSite.org, "It comes from the idea that French people are sexually liberated." According to WordOrigins.org (citing the Oxford English Dictionary), its first recorded use is 1918.
