Anyone tell me how to open the back of a watch. Is there a special tool ?

Watch is gents radio-controlled. Jeweller inserted new battery. Watch is only showing movement in seconds. Hands are stationary.

While I agree with the take it back to the shop that put in the battery comment, you can get backs off of watches, but it isn't easy without the proper tools.

The key is that you need to apply pressure to both sides of the back of the watch to get it moving in the counterclockwise direction.

That can be done with a pair of pocket knives (while something else holds the watch.

If you just happen to have a hole cutter for sheetrock (few people do) that will also work and can actually be done by one person using no clamps. It is also a bit less dangerous than the blade approach.

Small screwdrivers might also work. Anything that can catch the grooves that are built in for opening.

The most important thing is to use care. When pushing with the knife or screwdriver, make sure that nothing is in the direction you are pushing that could get injured or damaged. (Don't do it on the hood of your dad's bmw.)

If you can get into the thing, what then?

There is a special tool - its called a penknife, just have to get it in the right place and flick the back off, I wouldnt tho, any watch l have ever taken the back off has never ever ticked again lol

take back to person who fitted battery, there is a special tool, allthough ive seen them use small pen knife,to flick the back off, i would take back to the person you payed to change the battery, you might end up doing more damage then good, hope this helps

Sounds like the jeweler messed something up when they changed the battery.

Coach

It would seem that there is a problem with the mechanism. Do not attempt to open it but send it to manufacturer or take it to another jeweller. If the other jeweller did not see the problem when he replaced the batteries there is no point it taking it back to him.

Yes, there is a special tool used it looks like a pocket knife. You use a butter knife. On the back of the watch there is a little slot to place the tool, wiggle the tool in the slot until it pops open.

Take it back to jeweller the batter might be faulty.

there are different backs on the back of a watch if there are 4 or 5 indentations you need to take it to the jeweler if you look closely some times there is a little flap that a small screwdriver can fit in to flip the back off (alot of retail and hardware stores sell watch repair or eyeglass repair kits with these screwdrivers in them) just becareful not to loose the battery when you pop it off !

use a litle screw driver, like the one use to repair glasses

:> peace
.

yes but i do not know the name of it, go to a watch repair shop or jewellers inn the high street, they usually are able to open the back

yep bring it back.If you mess with it you have no come back//////////////////

hammer.

Put it in a vice and cut the back off with a hacksaw. I did that but the watch does not seem to work anymore

Take it to a jeweler. They have the proper tool for opening and replacing your watch battery.

Back to jeweler

go back to jeweler who installed new battery and have him/her take a look at it. Could be minor thing.

Best bet is to take it back to the shop - if it's not working after they fitted the battery then they will need to put it right.
