What is the best way to advertise for lawn care?

Is door to door appropriate? Or flyers? My husband needs an extra job on the side, and we can't spend much $ in advertising. He does excellant work.

I would put flyers everywhere. Supermarkets, home and garden shops are 2 examples. All it really costs is paper.

Craig's List, under gigs.

A small advertisment in the paper doesn't cost very much.

Flyers are good, but you can't put them in mailboxes (in the US at least - it is against the law). Flyers are a "spray and pray" technique. You have to put out a lot of flyers for very little response.

Door to door takes a lot of time, but the benefit of door to door is that, if the homeowner doesn't want your services, you can ask if they know someone who might.

So, print up some flyers, and take them door to door! (Just make sure someone does a spell check first!)

Many stores have bulletin boards for posting sales and services. You could post flyers there with tear-offs on the end with the phone number. Hopefully he has some type insurance that would cover him if something should go wrong (stone flying through a window and such)

give people with a high profile house or houses on street with a lot of foot traffic a discount. put up those signs that say "this lawn cared for by -----"

door to door isn't really appropriate and flyers aren't really respected. i suggest perhaps a church circular or a coupon for a free estimate. try to court big clients like condo complexes or gated communities. also consider selling long term service (the whole summer for $--.--)
