How do you care for a Norfolk Pine that is drying on the bottom branches? |
We live in upstate NY. We've had a Norfolk Pine indoors since Xmas. It seems to be dying off--some of the bottom branches are drying and yellow-ish, though the top branches seem lush and very healthy. The plant is about 2.5-3 feet high. We've tried giving it more sun and plant food. We've carefully followed the watering instructions. This morning we put it out on the front porch (it's 70's-80's here and humid), where it will get direct sunlight for the first 4 hours of the day. My wife loves this plant, but we can't seem to get it back up on its feet. Help! Living Christmas trees are not meant to remain in pots for a long period of time nor are they meant remain indoors beyond the holidays. They become root bound in small containers. When planting, be sure to break up the root ball slightly to give the roots an opportunity to branch out Do not over water or plant in an area where they get lawn sprinkler over spray.When a tree shows distress from the ground up, it's a sure sigh of over watering.
