Is it unhealthy to eat expired chocolate? |
If so, what are the side effects or consequences of doing such? Trust me as a choc lover i know it doesn't harm. I've eaten choc like a year past the expiry. (my boyfriends uneaten easter presents) and i haven't got sick. It just tastes gross coz it goes hard and kind of white. I would err on the side of caution and just toss if it is really old. Chocolate has alot of cocoa butter and fats go rancid, so if it tastes weird then throw it out. If it is days or a few weeks past expiration and was stored in a cool place, it should be fine. It's unhealthy to eat expired anything... It depends how long it has been expired. If it is just a day, then i might not taste the best. If it is a month or longer, then you may get food poisoning. Only slightly tho. you can eat chocolate way beyond the expiry date... no harm in that. |
