How many holes should my salt shaker have?

I have a plain white porcelain salt and pepper set, one has 1 hole the other has several holes. I am currently using the 1 holed shaker for salt, but my boss (I run a bar in a hotel), has just told me to swap them over - What is the correct way?

your boss is a moron, 1 for salt, many for pepper.

if you switch them, you will have many unhappy customers.....
in fact why not do it and blame your boss?

salt = 1 hole

I think you are correct, salt has a single hole and pepper has multiple holes. Have a good day.

salt = 1. salt will move more fluidly past the one hole due to its cube shape. The pepper needs more hole because it is a flake and is harder to get to pass threw the holes.

one hole for salt lots of holes pepper

no...the salt pot has one hole and the pepper several holes - your boss is wrong..not sure how long you'll keep your job if you tell him though...so say nothing & mentally consider it a victory!!

as above
pepper= lots

I think it depends on what country you are in - in the UK salt is generally put into the shaker with the single hole etc but in some countries this is the opposite.

1 for salt, several for pepper

Always one for the salt. As for the pepper, two or more. Maybe in other countries, it's different...

one hole is most common for salt.

salt = 1

dunno 4 sure toby`but ur Vinegar`shud have 1``thanks 4 the 2pts`

Salt one hole. Pepper five.

one, pepper - five

One hole for salt. If you swap them over you'll confuse the heck out of the punters.

i always thought that salt was the one hole pot!! That's what i use in resturants anyway.

Well, you don't want to lose your job over something trivial, so I'd just go along with what he said.

A salt shaker should have enough holes to let the salt out. One hole could work if it's big enough, I guess. But I prefer multiple holes.

salt has 1. You're boss is an eejit.

WOW. all of mine are wrong. I have the many holed lid on all shakers. oh my oh my oh my, What the heck ,i am the boss here. So im ok

salt has 1

1 salt.
2 pepper.

Your boss is a fool.
It's one hole for salt in the set you describe.

Salt has one hole

The Salt shaker has more holes than the pepper shaker.

Some say that a salt shaker should have more holes because of its favored status as a spice. Many people tend to shake copious amounts of salt and only sprinkle their food with pepper. Therefore, the salt shaker should have more holes in order to improve the flow, while a pepper shaker should do all right with fewer holes. If only it were that simple, however. Others say that it's not the number of holes that makes a difference, it's the size of said holes. Salt grains are thought to be larger than equivalent ground pepper flakes, so they should be put in a salt shaker with fewer but larger holes. Since ground pepper is lighter and dustier than salt, it requires more holes in order to flow out at a comparable rate.

I hope you don't have this same problem in bed.
