Why is Vitamin C called "Vitamin C"? Specifically, does the name have anything to do with Citric fruits?

I know that the L-enantiomer of ascorbic acid is known as Vitamin C. I am just wondering whether there is any significance to the letter "C", or if it is just a coincidence.

Citric acid is where the C is derived from... Also it makes sense because of the order of the alphabet. Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, etc... K

Vitamin C is purely the L-enantiomer(not citric acid as some may confuse this) of ascorbate; the opposite D-enantiomer has no physiological significance. Both forms are mirror images of the same molecular structure. When L-ascorbate, which is a strong reducing agent, carries out its reducing function, it is converted to its oxidized form, L-dehydroascorbate.[5] L-dehydroascorbate can then be reduced back to the active L-ascorbate form in the body by enzymes and glutathione.[6]

i am fairly positive it's just coincidental. for instnce the B vitamins are folic acid, thiamine, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, etc., vit. A is retinol, vitamin E is tocopherols.
