Would you call an American woman size 10 fat/plus sized?

I was just reading the Yahoo news and saw that America's Next Top Model winner is a size 8-10. There were then some comments about that being large sized. I always thought that was about average for an American woman...what do you think?

The average American woman is a size 14. Plus size models run from size 8 through 16/18, typically. Real life and modeling are two different things.

What is fat? That depends upon you - you can be a size 2 and be too fat and too thin, depending upon who is making that decision. If you're happy with yourself it won't matter what others think. I can say that people think that labeling a size 8 "plus size" is a travesty. I don't see what the big deal is - in the modeling world a size 8 is huge compared to your typical size 0 or 2.

I'm between an 8 and a 10, depending on what it is I'm wearing, and I don't really have too much of a problem with it. I don't look fat or obese or anything, but in the world of modeling, where everyone else is a size 0, then they would consider it plus size. But I don't live in Hollywood, I live in a small town in Michigan, so I'm average!

size 8 or 10 is definitely a plus size. Unfortunately it is an average size in America, but everywhere else in the world it's considered overweight. High Fashion Models are not supposed to be plus size. That's why they are "models" and not just average girls. The American media is just trying to send out a positive message to fat girls so that they won't feel bad about being fat. I personally find it hilarious.

normal! i'm between those sizes and i don't consider myself plus size / large.

i work in a clothing store and a girl asked me to get her the next size up ... which was a ten. and she asks me by saying "can you please get me a big girls size ten." i was offended by it, but she obviously has a skewed image of herself.

i think it's an average size, imo.

to me, it all depends on the height.
i'm 5'0.. and if i were a size 8-10, i wouldn't just be plus sized, i would be overweight and unhealthy.
i think size 8-10 for a height like the new antm winner is so flattering.
she is gorgeous! she is what men want.
i envy women like her since i'm a size 0 and not alot of curves at all.

in the fashion world everyone is a size 0-2 so if someone is a size 8 or 10 that is plus sized when you see some fashion models you see all there bones and i think that is nasty but in the regular world a size 8 or 10 is not plus size but a normal woman!

well if you pay attention to the fashion industry you will realize that every 5 years or so they make the clothes bigger but say they are the same sizes. like years ago a size 10 was an 8. at 14 now use to be a 16 then. fashion to make our growing waistlines feel better on us.

I would not. Im a size 9/10 and do not consider my self fat , but normal. I'm 5'4 145lbs but it doesn't look like i'm that weight. I just have wider hip bones. The world considers you fat over size 3 in modeling, but in the real world thats normal

I think that its average but in this day and age anything over a size 3 is considered fat. Which is really sad considering that the average American woman is a size 12.

definitely not, besides, all those size 0 models are anorexic and airbrushed anyway. how many times do you see something like that in real life? size 10 is definitely not plus size.

i think that it's normal but I'm in England and that would be a 10-12 which i think is very normal i don't think that is big at all but i guess it's up to opinion

Size 10 is not fat, it is normal woman sized. Unfortunately the messed up world we live in tells us that adolescent boy figure is a good look.

No not at all. I think that size is about average for a woman although sometimes it can differ depending on body shape.

Hey! I have been this size since I was 12!

and clothing has changed so it went from sm to med to lrg to x lrg!!

I have been an 8-10 all my life and now I am a plus size!!

no that's not fat people are just stupid, they think a "good body" is a size 2 and it's not it's just skin and bones.

i'm a US size 6-8 and i would say i'm too big to model certainly bigger than people anyway

I don't think that is plus sized. But in the model world i could see how they could view it like that.
