What is the average cost of an engagement and does the price matter?

My friend wants to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend, but thinks that buying a ring starting at $1,000 is too expensive.

I don't think that the actual size and cost of the ring should be the main focus if they are truly in love, but he does need to get with the times and realize that $1,000 is cheap for a nice engagement ring unless he wants to get her one of those ones out of a machine for a quarter. I certainly hope not.

You can get her a nice ring for $100.00 --- $300.00 all the way to a thousand bucks. If she loves you it shouldn't matter, its the thought that counts...and don't lie to her about the cost, she will check it out lol....

He should shop around. There are many deals out there, try overstock.com or even Costco. They have gorgeous rings and are guaranteed appraised at twice the amount you pay for it. You can get away with less that a grand.

Tell him to go to Walmart. Then he needs to go to an expensive jewelry store and get a ring box. She'll never know. Yes, price and size matters (at least to the size queens out there).
