What is the average price most blokes spend on an engagement ring?

I read somewhere that it was meant to be around a month's salary! What do you think?

I think that it is crap and try to get a vintage ring, they are nicer and cheaper

supposed to be 2 months salary but i think if a woman requires a man to spend a certain amount of money to prove his love she doesn't deserve him in the first place.

i was given the choice of my hubby buying the ring he thought he was supposed to buy or picking it out together. i chose to pick it out together and he said to select any ring i wanted, money was no object, as long as i was happy and it would be special to me. the ring i truly liked for it's stunning style and the real gemstone of my choice (not a diamond by the way) cost less than 拢100 but means more to me than any big gaudy rock that's all about money and not about love at all. i couldn't be happier with my choice and would feel terrible and selfish if he spent money on a ring that could have been spent better elsewhere.

First of all what does the budget say you still need to have that savings account on full not empty but to be honest it depends I think the 2 mos/or 10% of salary is a good one me personally when I find that special lady I am putting aside like $5-10K, just for the ring so it really depends but don't go broke because true LOVE aint about that, you can always work on getting the BIG BLING!!! later...

To much. If the girl is in love with you, the ring shouldn't make any difference. To many guys go into debt for a stupid ring.

A months wages was the norm. Nowadays though it is up to the individual. With so much to choose from in todays fashion conscious world, it would maybe be best to show your girlfriend a couple of brochures to get the jist of what she wants and likes.

Just enough that she won't laugh and not so much that she'll dump you for the ring. What a woman expects is different from woman to woman. If you don't already know what it will take to make her happy, then you need to ask yourself if this is the right time for you to be considering marriage.

It should be 3months but if you man works at mcdonalds then ... you have to cut him some slack... most men spend anywhere from 300-10,000.00 dollars depending on the type of cash they have but i would settle for anything from 999.99-2500.00 you can find nice rings on sale... even try hitting a pawn shop you can always find 3000.00 dollar rings for 1500.00 or less

My fiancee spent 900 but the ring is very simple which is my style so that plays a factor. It may sound silly but sites such as overstock.com have very nice jewelry at reasonable prices also.

Depends on how much you like the person. Hell, if she's completely unlikeable, get her a fake. :P Around a month's salary for something really trendy and what she likes will do - don't let her near the expensive section, it means more trouble for you !!! :D
