Why do woman's like to decorate themselves, with ornaments, makeup and what not?

We wear make-up because: It's fun, different, gives us confidence, helps us cover up parts we don't like, defines our best features, makes us look older/ younger, makes us look more interesting, impresses guys etc.

Both men and women did it in the egyptian times.

Women generally need to push their beauty more to get men and be taken seriously. I don't know why men don't - it may be another of those society things where women feel pressured to bend to the alpha males of their world. Anyway, I think if women go through all this trouble to look "good", men probly oughta join in. Maybe then we'd all realize how ridiculous this cycle is.

To make themselves look beautiful.

well the real answer is to look more beautiful and to attract and gain attention from their husband if married and if not then from other guys.

Some of us just enjoy it, but also our society values women based on how they look, so whether we feel like it or not, we feel pressured to take steps to look presentable in our society's view, if not beautiful. I would prefer to just wash my hair and body and wear clean clothes and not worry about the rest, but as a professional I am expected to look polished and professional and in my southern state that means at least a few feminine touches like makeup and jewelry. In my mind it's also a signal I send that I'm heterosexual (not that I'm looking for someone, just a way of saying who I am), as I have noticed that many lesbians do not wear makeup or jewelry and wear rather plain clothes, and though that would be my natural preference I do not want to be mistaken for a lesbian. Plus I have to admit I think I look nicer with a few "ornaments".
