Do women actually realize that guys prefer a naturally beautiful woman, rather than one who uses makeup?

Three things.

1. This is not true of everyone. Some guys DO like makeup.

2. What if you are not naturally beautiful? Obviously you have not seen what an expert makeup artist can do. Makeup, used right, can really transform what a woman looks like in a positive way. This is especially true if they have any skin problems. In any case, if a woman used makeup properly, you won't hardly even notice it is there, but you WILL notice when it is NOT. That said, the misuse of makeup can be a big disaster.

3. Society has a habit of doing this to women. We put them in between a rock and a hard place, then give them a hard time about it. We tell them they should be natural... but then we tell them they should look good. The same problem holds true for breast implants. Ask any guy if he prefers a "natural" woman, and they all will say, "Of course!" But then give them a choice between the girl with big (natural) breasts and the one with small. Some will not (see #1), but most of them will take the girl with big breasts. Even though there are decent guys out there who don't care about such stuff, the small-breasted girl is still statistically at a disadvantage.

It is true with makeup, too. There is an established "norm" in society that is accepted by most people as being beautiful or ugly, and though it what is beautiful varies from person to person, a woman ends up playing the odds. It is not right, but there it is. Your question is best directed to someone specific whom you believe is better looking without makeup, rather than at women as a whole.

I do realize guys prefer natural beauty, I was once dating a guy that told me to take my makeup off cuz I looked like a clown!!! I felt so embarrased! It's been years since that remark, and to this day I never wear makeup unless it's to a special events. I just wear lip gloss and mascara on a daily basis. :)

Ok, I'm just going to be up-front [not mean].
1) Ever heard of low self-esteem. Some girls have really bad cases of it and need makeup to feel pretty. That's their problem.
2) It enhances our naturally beautiful parts of our faces.
3) We feel good when we wear it.
4) Seriously. You can't tell me that when a girl has smoking hot eyes and looks sex-kittenish you aren't turned on just a little? C'mon....:-/

I think most don't but I have discovered that I look younger when I take his advice and wear less makeup.

thanx for saying that, yes, i do wear a little makeup, but try to keep it as natural as possible, beauty should come natural, not in a makeup bag.

Well, duh! We prefer a natural man! It's just some women are embarrassed of themselves so they hide it with make-up, no big deal.

Women don't always wear make-up to attract guys, sometimes they do it for themselves. My boyfriend tells me all the time that I don't need make-up. Whether I do or not I still wear it because it makes me feel comfortable. I have better self-esteem for wearing it as weird as that sounds.

But a little bit of makeup enhances a woman's natural beauty too. There's no harm in that.

Some of them need all the help they can get.

Others, on the other hand, see themselves differently when they look in the mirror (perhaps a self-esteem issue) and feel they must cake on as much makeup as possible (a la Tammy Faye Bakker).

Well, men are different and they have different opinion about that ( and all the other things ). So speak just for yourself.

Makeup, smakeup!! Guys who look for girls with "natural" beauty, have got their thumb up their a s s !! Don't you know it's what inside a woman that counts!! Brains are a lot more than beauty!!! You must be young, when you get older, you'll realize that!!

Well if i didn't have freckles and scars to hide, I would prefer to be all natural and save myself an extra 15 minutes everyday!

Have a look at some film shot 100 years ago. How many would you sleep with? Though we have probably evolved to be better looking since then by naturally selecting to have more offspring more often by the most beautiful mates possible, the human race would die out w/out make up.

I know that is what i've always heard from men. However, I like to use just enough makeup to cover dark circles under my eyes and blend my skin just a bit. I wear just enough makeup that you'd never even know I wear any - unless i'm going out for the evening.
Natural beauty IS more beautiful. Most of the women out there who really pile on the makeup, really don't have that natural beauty.

While I will agree with you that most men don't find overly-made up women attractive (war paint isn't a good look on ANYONE, and I'm sure 99% of the people reading this - male and female will agree with me on that one!), I am going to have to respectfully disagree with your question.

I hate to break it to you, but there are a LOT of women out there who go to considerable time and trouble to apply the "natural" look each morning. Most women do wear makeup, and will play up the features that the find most attractive. (It's just that they don't look like they applied it with a trowel!)

well some girls feel that they need to use make up for their own selves, not for a man... i know many girlfriends of mine love to get all girly, dressed up and glammed up... some may feel comfortable that way... i know a lot of girls who cannot go out in public without putting soe kind of make on... but i know what you mean...

i've narrowed it down to this...

1. many women buy so much make up to go for the natural look... theres some who say "i'm going for the natural look" but still uses make up... its a bit of a contradictiong but yes... most ladies know that the natural look gets the guys... so they buy make up to make them look naturally beautiful...

2. you are only speaking for a percentage of men who like the natural look... maybe the majority... i don't know but... i know some guy friends of mine like the whole smoky and super glamed up look... it turns some of them on... i shows a lot when a girl takes care of her self like that..

3. theres a difference with the natural look and looking natural... because someone who has natural beauty needs no make up whatsoever... that is a rare percentage of women out there... truuust me... hehe.. while looking natural is also a good choice... that's what i go for... i mean.. i only put on a bit of bronzer for a lil' color on the face.. and then i put on lip gloss... i'm good with that... i don't need the whole shabang...
