How much does it cost to fix the water leakage stain from dining room ceiling ?

I got the water leakage from the bath room above my dining room. it had been checked for moisture, and the vinyl from the bathroom had been removed but has not been replaced. Now there is a yellow stain around my chandeleer about 8-10 inches in diameter on my dining room ceiling . I need an estimate how much it would cost to do it myself vs to have some contractor to do it.

IF it's not still leaking, then you can do it yourself--if your ceiling is white, go to Walmart, or a paint store and buy "Killz" It's stinky, but it covers WELL, it's very thick.

good luck

use kils in spray can, comes out white may have to re paint? cost for two cans 5-6 bucks.about 30 mins work.

If you are not skilled in drywall, plastering and painting ceilings, I would definitely recommend professional work on this, even if you have to dip into savings to do so. I will predict that if you try and take this project on yourself, without skills, you will end up calling a contractor anyway. I speak from experience.

Don't know what part of the country you are in, and that will have some bearing on it, but I would estimate between 125 and 200 dollars.

Just read the first post, and definitely try that first.

All you need to do is go to Wallmart, get a starterpaint kit for ceilings (about 10 dollars) some tape, plastic to cover your floor and furtniture and a bucket of nice ceiling paint. I got a gallon for 17 dollars the other day and that was the more expensive kind that they blend in the exact colour you like.
Tip: the better the cleaning and taping of the edges in advance, te better your result!
Another tip: use the soft roller and strike both horozontally as diagonally and do the whole ceiling (otherwise you will see the difference in colour for sure!)

Yourself, 25 bucks for a gallon of stain killer and a gallon of ceiling paint. Assuming you have a roller and accessories.
Painter would get about 150 bucks to do it around me.

you will save more to do it yourself. we contractors tend to charge an increase in materials. plus your paying our labor time. we make sure that everything of ours makes money from our truck down to our tools. you will pay for every exspense that a contractor has in regards to your job.
