What happens when your gas company cuts off for not paying?

Can you stop them and how much does it cost? Person is in London. Can they just pay by card and get connected again? Does it take a long time?

well here in ohio.. if you have a infant that will stop them from turning it off for non payment during times of need. (winter)
once they do turn it off they sometimes want you to pay deposit. usually next day or two they turn it back on

Well I suspect the utility companies in London are just like the utility companies in the States. They tell you - pay us, then you don't. Then they tell you - pay us or we'll cut your utility off, then you don't. Then they do - and the only thing you can do to stop them is pay them (no law is going to protect you here - no one gets free gas you know). Now they cut you off, and you want your utility back? - Well, now you get to pay them what you owed, plus interest, plus fees - AND you have to pay them again for "hooking you back up again" - a fee normally twice what you originally owed them. Good luck, come up with money. They are worse than the mob. The mob will break your legs, but at least you'll be warm.

My co worker had her lights cut off and they made her pay the bill in full and she had to put a deposit down. Contact them, maybe you can make pymt arrangements with them. They also have programs for ppl who needs help with their bills. I'm not trying to judge you but once you get this resolved try to send them at least something every month or try the budget plan. Pay the past due bill and pay the reconnection fee. Wait period vaires.

Here in Washington state you only have to pay a little more than 1/2 of the bill (PUD) to get power turned back on, but not sure how the gas companies do it. They need to call and make arrangements.

what happens when they shut gas off? you get no gas!!!!! they will be very happy to turn it back on after you pay the bill up. most times the same day they get paid. if it a large bill,most times,and gas company's will take half, plus reconnect fee's, and make arrangements to get caught back up to date.
