African American Woman - How To Grow Long Hair?

I am an African American woman who has had natural hair for 2 years, as of August 2007. My hair has grown a lot (it's a little past my shoulders), but I am looking to promote further growth.

I have been looking into Ayurvedic Hair Care techniques, such as coconut oil, cobra hair kit, anything non-commercial or slightly non-commercial.

Has anyone tried this approach for hair growth? Please tell me your experiences, if you have any. Thanks...

Try pre-natal vitamins because they have large amounts of biotin and other elements that make your hair grow quicker. You could also visit this site http://mp.hairboutique.com/brand.asp?Mnf...
I used it in the past and it has helped a lot.

umm as of august 2007 its only july 2007 now how could that be as of

I'm 27 and never had a perm and my hair is about 4 inches above my butt. I just keep my hair washed and flat ironed. I used to put olive oil on my scalp to help it grow, but I didn't do that for long. My mom kept it in braids when I was little, but she didn't add any fake hair to it. It will just take time. I cut my hair up to my shoulders about 7 years ago and like I said, it's almost to my butt. My hairdresser sees me about once a month and can't believe how much my hair grows in that time period and the funny thing is, I don't do anything special to it and neither does she.

I agree with ATL Finest and would like to add that keeping your hair natural will go a long way to promoting growth. If you haven't done it yet, I highly recommend cornrows (thick rather than thin) as it's an easier way to maintain your hair without a lot of hassle.

My hair always grows quickest that way. I hope this helps you.

this answer is short but check it out it may become of interest

search for "grown afro hair long" or "crown and glory technique"

hope it helps

It grows about 1/2 inch about a month, at least thats the rate for African American hair.

Anywho........................... to grow hair faster do the following:

Eat a good diet
Eat protien such as eggs
go to bed at a good time
take biotin pills, I take them and get new growth every week.

Eat vitamin B
be patient
trim hair 4-8 weeks
when you wake up finger comb your hair, then regular comb. Comb from the bottom up.

Sleep on a silk pillow.
Wash hair 2 times a week, deep condition
massage scalp with oil.

dont dye, perm, or use any heat on head, it causes stress to hair and it'll break off.

Drink 8 glasses of water a day and drink milk.

If you follow the following tips you will see an improvement in your nails, skin, and HAIR. You'll see an improvment in about a month or before for hair.

Hope this helped ya!!!!!!!! BYE :)

well i don't have any experiances, but my friend does (she's african american) she gets her hair relaxed and then it's easier to work with (she cut it, got it layered, and straightened it every day). If its easier to work with, then maybe you could get extensions or something. I'm not really too sure about this, but if u wanted, u could look into this more.

I suggest you to put pure indian coconut oil on your hair atleast twice a week and gently massage and yes it worked in my aunt's hair it so long and thick and straight!
