What is the best way to apologize to someone you truly care for?

i have asked this question on facebook, but have gotten no reply. please answer it in as much detail as you can. thank you.

it depends on what it is about and how much you mean it. however, a very effective way of apologizing that I read from a book called The Japanese Art of Negotiation (or at least i think it's called that) is (i'm summarizing it from memory so it might not be exactly what the book says) to state the history and the circumstances and what you are apologizing for, then explain how sorry and how much you regret whatever you're apologizing for and address her feelings, and what you will do to fix and to recompense what you have done. This way addresses the past, the present, and the future, which makes it very effective and meaningful, but you have to really mean it.

well, you don't give any details, so i say, take the direct approach don't make excuses, don't offer an apology with conditions, such as saying, "i'm sorry, but...just get right to it. own up to what you did and be sincere about it. don't try to buy forgiveness with flowers or anything like that. the best way to truly show you're sorry is to totally humiliate yourself. that's my advice. i wish you the best
