What is the best way to deal with people who take advantage from others?

Some people had taken advantage from me a lot of times last year and fewer times this year.
How can I know if someone is going to take advantage from me? Any signs? Anything I should observe in their behavior which could tell me they are going to take advantage from me, before they can actually do it?

Just drop your friend like a bad habit.

There is really no way to spot someone who will take advantage of you, unless it is the sexy chick or hunk who all of a sudden wants to be your friend as soon as you get your new car! Seriously you need to take each person you meet on a one on one basis. Form your own opinion of them from the experiences you have with them, don't let others influence you.
