What's the difference between two friends (boy&girl) hanging out, and a bf and gf hanging out?

becuase people always asume they like each other or what not, just becuase it is a girl and a boy. how can u make it seem like it really isn't anything more than a friend to friend relationship? (for example: when hanging out together at school or in public, etc).

Everyone thought my best friend (who's a guy) and I (a girl) had something going on while my husband was away from home for work. Even our families thought our friendship was a little too close. I got so sick of defending myself, but he always just laughed it off. He explained that some people have dirty minds and that they'd believe what they wanted. The people who really mattered--me, him, my husband and, later, his girlfriend--knew that I'm more comfortable with male friends and that in my eyes he's about as anatomically correct as a Ken doll (only fair, he refers to me as a dude with boobs because I like guy stuff). And he was right. Once the morons spreading rumors quit upsetting me, they found someone else to annoy. His dad will always believe we had something going on, but I was so proud of my best friend when his dad asked who I was one time and he said, "that's [my name], you know, the girl I was f***ing." the look on his dad's face was priceless and he's been nothing but polite, to my face and behind my back, ever since.

One way would be toa avoid any physical contact. No holding hands, arms around each other, kissing or anything. No romantic looks at each other either. Thats about all you can do.
