What are some unique ways to throw a benefit?

I live in a small town. I'm among a group of other citizens who wants to do some type of fundraiser to show support for one of the longstanding town members who was recently forced to quit working due to MS. All ideas are much appreciated.

have a karaoke/bake sale. set up some music let people sing for 5 dollars a song and have everyone in the town make baked goods to sale. throw in a car wash too, just to make it interesting. good luck
