How do you deal with a sister who is condescending and rude?

My sisters tone is very rude and degrading. She has a way of making everyone around her feel unworthy or not good enough to be in her presence. She happened to marry my boyfriends best friend and they're relationship/business has started to disentegrate because of her. How do you make someone stop being mean and start being nice? She never has anything nice to say and is very pessimistic when it comes to others. HELP!!!!

Your sister has many problems. You might ask her what has happened to you to make you so bitter. One day she will figure it out. I would avoid her as much as possible. If you are old enough you need to move as far away from her as possible to be a healthy happy person.

Has anyone ever confronted her about this? Does she even recognize that this is a problem? Like does she make comments to the effect of "no one seems to like me" or "I don't have many friends"?

These can be great conversation openers where you can tell her hey maybe it is the way you speak to people. Be prepared to site some examples, and be prepared that she WON'T like what you have to say and will probably not speak to you for a while.

In some instances you may want to ask your parents or other siblings for advice on dealing with your sister, in other instances you might not want to bring anyone else in on this.

Your boyfriend's relationship with his best friend is his business, as your relationship with your sister is your business. Try to keep them separate. When lines get blurred, feelings get hurt and communication becomes impossible.

It may be a good idea to talk with a counselor. Counseling is not a bad thing - it doesn't mean you've failed - it is often used by people trying to find a better way to relate and help friends, family and couples think through difficult problems and break communication barriers.

Ultimately, if counseling and intervention fails, and your sister's hostility continues, it is possible she is a toxic person. If your relationship with her brings you down and hurts your other relationships, it may be best to simply isolate yourself from her.

Someone needs to have to courage to confront her and tell her how the cow eats the cabbage.

Tell her exactly how you feel. If you find it difficult to talk directly to her, e-mail her. Tell her if she doesn't change her attitude towards you and others, you will have to disregard her as a senior and you will not show her any respect from now on. If she refuse to change, then don't show her any respect and treat her like she's nobody. She has no right to treat you like that even though she's your senior.

she probably have pms syndrome or something about her hormone is wrong...
You see the only time I am mean and rude is just before my preriod or some time when I am pregnant...

My sister is part demon I'm pretty sure. I am mean right back to her, I do not let her talk down to me or try and take advantage of me at all and I think she's pretty much learned to leave me alone. Sometimes people need a taste of their own medicine even if that medicine is a slap in the face.

Everyone that is close to her should have a meeting and talk to her about it. Tell her how you feel and that she isn't a nice person to be around. And that she isn't careful that she could loose alot of friends and family if she continues to be the way she is. Just be up front and honest.

Be rude back to her and let her now that you arent taking her crap because if she thinks she can just treat you like $h!t then shes going to so you need to let her now how you roll!

sometime people are going though trying times them self and react differnly,because you are dealing with your sister try patients.sometimes people feel like they are special because their status is different then your so you are to look up to them ,by the way is she younger or older than you.

well, you can't pick your family. I suggest limiting your time with her, and telling her why. If everyone does the same, soon she'll realize what effect she has on people. I don't think anyone should have to put up with @#$% just because they're "family".
