How do I get my family to stop sitting around and DO something on the weekends?

I'm so sick of the way my family acts--- all we do is sit around every weekend watching TV and sleeping. Unless someone gets an invitation to do something, you can bet that we'll be at home doing nothing. How can I convince them that there are things to see and do in life and it's such a waste of time to just sit around on our only days off?!

in that case, does anybody have any ideas of fun things we could do? keeping in mind that the family contains teens

tell them say family get up ur lazy butts and lets do something fun

Sounds like everyone works hard and needs to rest by just vegging out in front of tv. Is there a lot of stress in the rest of the week. Well some things you can do :Taking walks ( hiking) ,volunteering, playing scrabble or other games, cleaning the garage, taking a day trip to somewhere interesting like historical place or museum, inviting friends to join you for a picnic if the weather is good, go to sports event. I guess a lot depends on where you live ( city or country). I dont know if you are parent or child but if you are child you can look forward to planning your own interesting things once you are out on your own!

Look for some fun, cool things to do as a family and pitch the ideas to them. Don't let it rest, but make sure that the activity is something that is fun for everyone and is relaxing. No one wants to work on their weekends.

What kind of activities does your family enjoy when they do get an invitation? Try and find out what everyone enjoys when they are out, and then plan your ideas around that. Depending on where your from, and what you have in your area, (we don't have much), you could go to Lazar tag (that's fun at any age), bowling, roller skating, etc.

Maybe you could convince them,it's time for a family vacation.
(at least after the holidays).

Good luck.

Mine does the same thing, thus I make the effort to go out.

yeah...my family does the same thing and I can't stand it - it's always the lame excuse of "life isn't always fun" or "we do plenty of fun things but right now, we just want to relax"
I think some parents are just that way, dude
I just gotta wait until I turn 16 and can drive out somewhere on the weekends...lol

Well...did you ever think that maybe they work and on the weekends they just want to rest? Raising teens is not as easy as you think !! It is always something, worrying about money or how there going to pay for this or that?....Or maybe, they or just lazy?..Tell them you would like to spend some time doing family activity's, going to the park? what ever, your smart enough to come up with something?........

That's a tough one. Habits are hard to break, so I would suggest pacing yourself in doing this. How about bowling? It's a good family time together. It's fun, and once they go, I am sure they would enjoy. I know what you mean, about watching tv so much. It can drive you up the wall. Also you could suggest some home games. Cards, or board games to get everyone involved. Bowling would be more active though, but as long as you all are doing something together, it would be a good thing. Good luck!
