What to do if an outdoor party is rained out? |
I'm having my daughters birthday party at our house this Sat. I was planning an outdoor BBQ with a bounce house, slip-n-slide, water games, that kind of thing. Go figure, just heard the forcast and they're expecting rain. I have nothing to do inside my house! What can I do to entertain people inside if we get rained out? The guest of honor is two, but there will be guests ranging in age from chidren to elderly and the party is supposed to be for 3 hours. Any ideas or help is appreciated, thanks! Kids are usually easily amused, especially the really young ones. Do the bbq in the oven, set a pretty table, and provide the kids with lots of toys and cute movies to watch. The adults, however, are more easily bored so I would suggest games like charades, trivial pursuit, etc. I have always remembered my 8th birthday (my bday falls in Dec.). The weather was miserable. But I remember opening my presents and my uncles sat on the floor with me and played Uncle Piggly Wiggly (board game). Most of the adults just sat in the kitchen, yakked, and drank coffee and ate cake. But I do remember them playing that game with me. I would cancel the bounce house but still keep the water components. It can be fun to play in the rain as long as you're expecting a warm storm. Even throw in some water pistols and water balloons. Re-do your bbq menu for inside. Cook the hotdogs on the stove top and BBq chicken in the oven. throw a video on for the little ones. Hit the dollar store for coloring books, paper dolls, puzzles and crafty supplies. Get some plain cookie dough and let people personalize cookies that you can bake. have an ice cream sundae "bar" . Pin the tail on the donkey or a pinata. Do the hokey pokey and/or play musical chairs. You don't have to have chairs but can use pieces of paper with or without pictures of animals or such. Have a treasure hunt. Well its pretty simple Sorry miss, but you're going to have to pack up and settle for a party indoors. =( |
