How did the custom of putting candles on birthday cakes start? |
Yes I asked this question a couple of days ago in another section but so far haven't received a response that answers the question. Birthday candles originally were placed on cakes to bring birthday wishes up to God. In ancient times, people prayed over the flames of an open fire. They believed that the smoke carried their thoughts up to the gods. Today, we believe, that if you blow out all your candles in one breath, your wish will come true. Probably, this tradition, started, with the SAME MOTIVE, of DENOTING the NUMBER of YEARS,a person attains,on that birthday."cremedelacreme, please contact me, I want to ask U, how to FIND ZAHIDA's address, I do not understand how,i can approach, herPAGE,of Q&A. it all started when the ancient peaople light up a fire during black saturday, the fire symbolizes christ. so the custom of putting a candle in a b-day cake symbolizes that Christ is with us. the numbers represent the years that Christ is in our lives.... Tradition holds that the person with the birthday can make a wish, which will come true if all the candles can be blown out in one breath. But many people make a wish if it takes them more than one breath. Another tradition is to smear out the name of the person for good luck before slicing the cake for serving. made it look prettier..i dont know. |
