What's a good theme for my grandparent's 50th anniversary party?

My family and I are planning a party (that they know about) for them this July. We're just a little stuck on a good theme. The party will have about 30-50 people invited and we want to have a good time and be memorable. Thanks for your ideas!

They were married in 1958 & its their 50th anni. so have a "50's" themed party . Play music from that era guests can even dress up in poodle skirts and what-not. Have what they called a "Sock Hop" It's cheesy I know, but it could be fun.

Depending on how computer savvy you are or someone you know is, you could make a power point presentation of their 50 years together and project it on a wall to play in a loop during the party.

I've added a link to a site that you could use to get party ideas and favors/decorations.

FYI: the 50th anniversary is called the "Golden Anniversary" it is proper or customary to give a gift of something gold to the couple celebrating.

60's fancy dress

How about: "Oldies, But Goodies"? Take a trip down memory lane with (then & now) pictures, histories, anecdotes, and people from their past? A 50's music theme would be awesome. Decorate with 50's theme as well...like maybe the old soda shoppe or corner drug store.

Decorate the room like an old folks home and have foods that are soft and easy to chew and high in fiber.

Does he like GOLF?

the 50s theme. With the big hair. Even though they probably don't have too much hair left. O well buy them some wigs.

have a party and invite all the family and have 50 Golding billions

for 50th wedding anniversary ... the first thing that comes to mind is Golden theme....

here are some ideas for planning a 50th wedding anniversary
http://purpletrail.com/partytrail/featur...

I would do a Golden Years theme. The 50th is the golden anniversary so I would incorporate the color into table settings, flowers, & balloons. Maybe everyone could wear gold dress/ties if it is semi dressy.I would play music from the time they were married. No matter what you do they will love it!

Have your party with a Big Band theme. Like Larence Welk, Count Basey, or very early swing bands like Mitch Miller.

What would they like? A backyard barbeque or a sit down dinner in a posh restaurant? Will the guests be all adults or will it be muli-generational? Think about their interests. Do they like travel, sports, family?
The nicest 50th party I have ever been to was a luau in the backyard. Roasted pig, fresh fruits, full bar. Decorations included fish nets, shells, palms. Realistic leis. Authentic hawaiian music. Nothing fake or cheesy looking.

If its possible to re-create any of the decorations from their wedding, do it. Use old photos, ask them questions, maybe re-create the bridal arch they stood under (if they did), try to get the same flowers, same foods, maybe try to get a duplicate of the cake. We did similar things for my grandparents, but it wasn't their 50th. Re-creating something 50 years ago for people that weren't alive then to enjoy would be something memorable. Also, if they went on a honeymoon, have a small area in that theme (like a beach theme if thats where they went). Its not so much a theme, as it is ideas... But I think if you went further with re-creating it, it could be a great theme.

The olden time love. Like the 50's?

love for ever, true love never ends, love crosses barriers, true love lasts for ever, admirable couple.

50 years of love

50 golden years - gold balloons always look elegant, and you could throw in some red maybe to

how about 50 golden years of love

or what about having a famous quotation to build your theme around.

Remember to always have the psalms verse about "love is patient, love is kind...." somewhere, wheather in a guest book, or even on a framed picture.

a blast from the past - you could have old pictures all around and old balloons, for a game, you could have a bunch of couples in old photos on a wall, and have people guess which couple they really were, remember to include funny ones, like disney cartoon charactors etc.

A Golden Memory Party - - decorate with touches of gold, candies in gold wrappers, gold balloons, etc.

Here's an idea I saw in a magazine a few years back. On each table, have note cards where each guest writes a memory of the couple and places it in a jar or bowl. You could have a list of suggestions on the table to get people writing - like "Were you at the wedding? What do you remember about it?" or "What's the most romantic thing you ever saw Grandpa do?" or "Do you have a memory of one of Grandma and Grandpa's anniversaries?" Things like that. Be sure to include questions for the young folks, too.

Towards the end of the party, pass the jar around and read each note aloud. Have everyone guess who wrote each memory. At the end of the party, gather up all of the note cards and give them to your grandparents to enjoy.

Congratulations to your grandparents on 50 years of marriage!

Do it like "Grease" (the movie) themed!
That would be a !blastttttttt! and will surely bring back great memoriess:]]]
