Can you give me some modern ideas for a babyshower?

I'm throwing a baby shower for my friend. I've been to countless babyshower's in the past and they're all the same and usually pretty boring if you ask me. Can you give me some ideas as far as new games and things to do to make it more modern and interesting instead of the same old boring babyshower? Thanks!

go to chucky cheese so your friend has a preview of her life for the next 10 years

Do an around the clock baby shower. Each person gets a time of day to shop for a gift.
For example: a bath tub might represent 7:00 at night, 3:00 am might be a bottle set or a rocking chair for mom. Use your imagination and give your guests hints for gifts that represent the hour they are to shop for....also make sure you mail their time with their invitation.

Have every guest bring a plain onesie, and provide fabric paints. Have everyone decorate a onesie, and you can even use freezer paper stencils.
To do this buy a roll of freezer paper and trace any design you want. You can even trace it right off your pc screen. Cut it out with an X-acto knife, then place the freezer paper waxy side down onto the onesie. Iron it on, it will stick, but wont damage the fabric. Make sure you put something inside the onesie so the paint doesnt leak through, then paint in the stencil, and when its dry you can peel off the freezer paper. Voila! Cute custom baby-wear.

I am expecting and DREADING the cheesy baby shower with games thing - so not my style - LUV, LUV, LUV the pedicure idea!

Anything pampering would be Divine - massages, facials, mani-pedis, lunch out at a fabulous place.

A prenatal yoga class with a private instructor and all your girlfriends giggling at themselves and a lovely relaxing tea and scones moment after-wards.

A group class in ceramics, gourmet cooking, or whatever may be just a fun bonding moment with he girls - Being pregnant can be lonely if you are missing out on happy hours and late night activities.

I threw a baby shower in November for my cousin...It was rubber duck themed. I wanted to do a little something different game wise so I we played "duck, duck, GOOSE!" haha you should have seen everyone's face when I told them thats what we were playing, when in reality I took a big tub of water (I used my hot tub) Took as many rubber ducks as there were guests, and put them floating in the tub. On one duck I wrote goose on the bottom in permanent marker. We had different things out to help catch the ducks, like nets and things, who ever got the goose got a prize, it was fun. Also they could donate the ducks to the mommy to be for an extra raffle ticket! Have fun!

Ask the mom-to-be if she wants games. I didnt want games because I'd much rather visit with everyone since I dont get to see them often! My friends also went to the local gourmet store and got ideas on some new things to serve at the shower! They explained what everything was and how to assemble it and everyone had a good time trying it. (my favorite was a plain pita chip topped with honeycomb and guyere cheese....so yummy!!!) Instead of a cheesy cake we had cupcakes from a local bakery.

Make sure you start things off right and have an awesome invite! Incorporate the nursery theme or the mom's favorite colors, etc. www.finestationary.com has some great ones.

What about going to lunch and then getting pedicures?

Going out to see a play/musical?

Dont do the cheesy decorations!! For example: If the invites are safari themed, try decorating with some floral arrangements that include birds of paradise, large tropical leaves, etc. It can actually be cheaper than getting the banners, signs, cheaper little booties, etc.

Use just plain white platters. It looks much more put together that way!

Good Luck!

Hope this link helps. Have fun!
