Does anyone know of any natural remedies for dog allergies?

My labrador has horrible allergies. She's been to the vet several times and has been treated with everything from steriod and cortizone shots to antibiotics to shampoos and anti-itch creams and more. While the symptoms will go away after each treatment, they always come back and I hate to see her suffering from constant itching (not to mention all the treatments are getting ridiculously expensive and they don't solve the problem long-term anyway). Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any homopathic/natural remedies? Thanks.

Grain free diet. If this scratching is all year round than he is allergic to his food. Up to 70% of dogs are allergic to corn, wheat, soy and/or barley. Go to your local natural pet food store and tell them you need a good grain free diet. Try to find wellness core reduced fat if you can as most grain free diets can cause a lab to gain weight (most food can cause a lab to gain). If the problem continues get some Azmira Aller'G. This is a natural supplement that will help his system to defend itself. If you smoke please do so outside as this can also cause these problems. If the problems continue after six weeks than add some salmon oil or flax-seed oil to her food. this will get her omega 3/6 balance out. Good luck!

My dog had this problem. We switched her to a new food, Nature's Recipe, and it seems to be helping a lot. This food is totally organic and great for helping with allergies. Be patient- sometimes it takes a month or longer to make a difference, but you will definitely notice when it does.

Can you strip down her environment and her diet to the bare necessities? I would eliminate everything that isn't essential including the monthly flea preventatives, I would get new bedding, a new collar and leash and put her on a home made exclusion diet:

Making it yourself just by passes trial and error from whatever is in commercial hypoallergenic diets.

Does she get a lot of exercise? Sometimes itching is stress related. The predisposition is there but a stress can make it flare up. Could she be allergic to something in her environment? I would switch from plastic food bowls to porcelain or steel. You may also want to look at cleaning products and see about using vinegar and water or something like Simple Green.

You may also want to clean her off a few times a day with a towel and warm water and see if that helps soothe her itchiness. She shouldn't stay damp but it may help her remove some allergens from her and make her feel more comfortable.
