How do you stop your dog from peeing on everything or places he shouldn't?

Heres the problem he is pad trained was doing great up until about a month and a half ago.He has started peeing on the beds, the furniture. The vet said he is just showing off but it is getting old.He is almost a year old and a miniature dashund. What can we do to stop this behavior?

He has been fixed this didn't start until after that was done.

this happed to me with my boxer after i got him fixed- hes 2. you deff need to put him in crate at night and when not home. but if he hasnt ever been in one you have to introduce it slowly or your dog will act out. keep the door open the first few days and put a treat in it and have him go in- keeping the door open do that for a few days. then put in a chew toy and close the door when hes chewing, when hes done open the door and let him out. it will take about a week. they make sprays you can buy at pet stores to put on couches and whatnot to keep them away from it. be persistent with taking the dog directly out when it pee's in the house. when it pees outside praise it and give a treat. this worked for me... good luck

The vet said he's showing off? That's bizarre! Is he neutered? Sounds like he's just marking territory and needs some serious training. If he's marking in the house, he's not ready to have run of the house when no one can watch him - he needs to be crated. When you are home, you need to keep him in the room with you so you can watch him and stop him before he pees on things.

Crate train him and get him fixed.

If he's been fixed he might have a urinary tract infection. Take him to the vet to rule out a medical problem. Once that has been done, you will have to try retraining him. Confine him to a smaller space until you can trust him and then slowly open up his area until he has full run of the house. It could be that he was given free reign too soon.

Patience and consistency.

Personally, I don't "believe" in puppy pads, paper training. I think this basically tells the dog is ok to "go" in the house.

Best option is to teach him to go outside. This means start training him as if he were a puppy. Take him outside every couple of hours, just after he wakes and after he eats and just before bed. Don't give him the opportunity to go in the house. Put a leash on him indoors and keep him at your side so you can keep an eye onhim. When you take him outside and he goes, reward him with affection and/or treats. If you are not home during the day, you will likely need to crate train him to.

Good Luck

ive been into that prob.before..i trained my dog to use his pad and he's doing it well until i started bringing him out to pee or to poop..that makes him confused for a couple of days...but he gets used to that in the day, he shows signs when he wanted to go out to pee or poop, then i brought him out, without a 2nd thought, at night he used his pad...u just need to be very consistent on teaching ur pup where is he going to pee, then always clean very well the area/s of where he peed...make it sure there will be no more pee scent that will left on the area or else he will do that again...try to teach him to pee out...bring him out every now and then..it may takes a while, but he'll get used to that...just be consistent and keep an eye on your dog....say NO or STOP whenever u caught him peeing or pooping on the floor or anywhere, then bring him out after he drink water or after he ate. clean the area where he should not pee and praise him or give him treat when he is peeing on his pad or outside..be patient and be consistent...

My dog had the same problem my vet said to rub the dog's nose into the spot the dog urinated into and use some word that has a negative connotation for the dog then put the dog outside allow the dog to urinate then reward the dog if you keep this up the dog wont urinate anywhere inside unless its a emergency for the dog
p.s. always say positive things to your dog when they urinate outside

u can either get you dog on a schedule to by taking it out side for a day and write down the time every time it pees and then let it out at that time every day or you can wup it by putting its nose infront of the pee that let it out side but you have to talk to it like its a human dogs can be very smart if you teach them

i have a mini doxie. he's a stubborn STUBBORN dog! (most doxies i've met are).

my suggestion would be crate training. if you cannot monitor him constantly he needs to be in a crate until he re-learns his potty manners!

try putting the dogs face up to her pee, they hate it and it makes them stop
