How do I keep a new puppy from crying at night? |
I have a new puppy and I am keeping him in a basket at nite so he wont potty in the house at nite. But all he does is Cry and wantes to sleep with me. HELP!!!! Try putting a hot water bottle or a heating pad in with him. I also heard of putting a clock that you can hear ticking can help, something about the puppy will think it is the beating heart of it's mom. Unfortunately it takes a lot of patience. Our puppy just got crate trained last week and she is 19 weeks old. You have to make sure they're comfortable and just let them cry. Let it out every 3-4 hours at first to go potty but be firm or it will be a disaster later. Good luck! Hey, she may be feeling cold at night.Protect her by some warm clothing! a wind up type watch or clock works wonders. The ticking of the clock somehow soothes the puppy. I have always used one when I get a new puppy, do this until the puppy gets more comfortable in his new place. Ignore him! If you give him what he wants he'll keep doing it. Eventually he'll fall asleep, and if you give into him you'll be worse off. yo just have to let them cry them selves out i just got a knew puppie and i have been going thru the same thing trust me I remember those memories, i usually just either left a night lite on the radio, or the t.v. at night they will fall asleep before you know it. try giving him a blanket so he can snuggle underneath it.......i did that for my new pup and it works great! every night when he goes to sleep he has to crawl under his blanket and go to sleep Try and use one of those windup alarm clocks that tick. Wrap in in his blanket and they think that they are laying near their mom. It worked wonders for my 5 week old black lab puppy. He used to cry all the time but when I tried the clock he slept and he used to curl up next to it and be so content. I put rice in a sock and heated in the Microwave. Than I took a blanket and put it in the kennel loose and the rice sock at the bottom so the puppy can lay on it. Kelo loves to climb under the blanket and I also gave him a fairly large (about his size) stuffed animal for him to curl up to. I agree with the clock and the hot water bottle. I'd be concerned though about using an electric heating pad as pups and dogs in general like to chew and if he chewed the cord you may have a more serious problem. Good Luck. Put one of your unwashed shirts in with in puppy, that way it can smell you. Make sure to get up and let him go to the bathroom so he doesn't have to sleep in it if he has an accident. feed him lots of peanut butter put a heating pad in the bottom of the basket i tryed this once and it worked but you have to give the puppy time to adjust to his new home and being away from his mom , put a blanket or towel and a alarm clock in his basket so he will hear something all night. you know puppies are just like babies there used to hearing and being close to warmth and give him lots of love ,soon he will let you sleep hahahha For the first few days or first week, the puppy is not used to the foreign environment. you might have to accompany him till he falls asleep.or let him sleep with you till he is used to it.(which doesnt take long) it would be ok when he really takes it as his home. Try putting a heating pad in the basket. He probably misses his mommy's warmth. He wants to be near his mommy's warm tummy, wants to snuggle next to someone. Sometimes, I'll just throw a towel into the dryer and heat it up and put it in the dog's basket. |
