How to cover vertical blinds in my apartment? |
I'm not allowed to paint/or take them down and I really hate the way they look and would really like to cover them with some sheers or drapes or both but I have not idea how to do this with out making more holes in the walls or taking them down. Okay, not allowed to take them down...hmm. I had these and they were basically slats clipped to the track at the top. You should be able to gently pull the slat out by tugging straight down-it just slides out. Mine used to fall out sometimes. I'm thinking you could remove the slats and clip in a lightweight drapery sheer, temorarily, and not remove the track or the hardware so that, when you move, you can just slip the slats back in and landlord won't be upset. You might even try just taking out the first one and the last one so that you can slip your fabric in to secure it. Otherwise you will need to put up a curtain rod of some sort to hold your sheers or drapes. I put a valance above mine, mine is a sliding glass door also. They have some really nice ones out there I had to use 3 tho to fit the length of the door, looks nice! Get a curtain rod long enough to reach a little farther than the bracket holding up the blinds. Put the curtains/sheers on the rod and use the bracket for the blinds to hold up the rod. See if you can attach it with nylon ties at each end where the blind bracket comes out from the wall. Go ahead and make more holes in the walls by adding a modern curtain rod over the top of the verticals. You can hang long drapes over them or just do a valance at the top to warm things up a bit. When you move out just do a little spackle over the holes and sand. No one will know the difference. I've done this many times. Your best bet requires making holes. Drapes and a nice matching valance will do just fine. if it is a slider than you will need to put a bracket at either end and one in the middle depending on how heavy your drapes are. You may need two supports instead of the single in the middle if your drapes are heavy like velvet. Either way this is a nice way to cover the blinds and if you need to move you can always fill the holes left behind easily. I have just had this same similar dilemma, what I dod was I went to Home depot and bought the roman bamboo shades in the dark brown. It makes my apartment look a little more customized than it is. And the great part is that you can take them with you, Just measure your windows/sliding glass vertically and horizontally-take the measurements with you and someone will assist. When I went home to hang them, they were up within five minutes. |
