How do you make a patch work pillow? |
Please make it informative, including directions, measaurments, and things I need. Thank you! Buy a pillow form the size you want. With scissors, cut strips of fabric 2 1/2 inches wide, pick a pair and lay one atop the other, right sides together, sew down one long side using 1/4 inch seam allowance (same on all seams). Do that to each pair of strips. Press the seam on each sewn pair toward the darker fabric, open the strips and press flat. Lay sewn strips, right sides together, sew and press seams as before. Cut the "stripes" into strips 2 1/2 inches wide, turn so colors alternate, lay 1 strip on top another, right sides together, sew and press as before. Continue until your "patchwork" is as big as your pillow form plus 1 inch all around. Cut a piece of solid fabric for the back the same size, lay right sides together, sew three sides with heavy thread, turn, insert pillow form, turn under raw unsewn edge and hand-stitch. Pop stitches to launder cover. If you want a strip piece pillow ,I agree with the last response. It is very good for a first timer.Patchwork is little more complicated. It is what it implies. Sewing different patches together and ending ing a swatch which is big enough to make a sqaure and then sew the squares together . When you decide how big you want your project to be,you go back and square up your swatches and then sew them together if you want it to look like a quilt you will have to put in a 1 inch strip between the sguares.Allow at least a 1inches more on the front and back ,more than you pillow form. |
