What is the best way of sealing a hole in the plastic outer washing machine drum? |
I have just traced the cause of my washing machine leak to be a small crack/hole in the bottom of the plastic outer drum that encases the metal spinning drum. Picture of hole http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a159/o... I had a similar problem once. First, drill a small hole in each end of the crack. This creates a stress stop and prevents the crack from getting larger. You need to thoroughly clean the drum, inside and out, from the hole/crack to at least 4 inches away. Cover the crack with the best quality "duck tape" that you can find. Do this to both sides of the drum. The fabric woven through this tape will help hold the weight of the water. Then cover the upper surface of the tape, inside and outside with silicon adhesive. If you do it right, it'll last for a long time. The repair I did has lasted 4 years. fiber glass, would work , Epoxy a plastic patch over it. Epoxy is pretty tough and will last quite a while. |
