What is the best way to restore a hardwood floor??

I need to restore my hardwood floors, but need to know the cheapest and fastest way to do it.

Depending on what's wrong, probably need to sand them and refinish. If you need to replace boards, that'll be more difficult, but not impossible.

Make any repairs to clearly damaged areas and if wood needs replacing.. talk to someone at the hardware store about replacing. You might have to saw out the bad board and carefully finesse a new piece in. Cutting off the tongue so you can get it installed. Then make sure all the nails are below the surface on the rest of the floor.

Rent a floor sander, sand it down. Carefully follow the instructions for how to use it and use ear protection. You're going to have to sand the edges by hand so get some instructions on how to use that too.

Talk to the hardware store about the right kind of stain and varnish. They'll tell you how to put it on.

I don't know how "cheap" it will be, maybe you might want to live with the "rustic" look ;)

I know bees wax works very well, brings up a lovely sheen. (might be a bit slippy though, so test on a small area first)
