How difficult is it to retile a bathroom wall? |
I've never done this before and want to know if it's something I should try or leave to the professionals. Thanks! If it's one solid wall with nothing on it, you could try it. I've done a few bathrooms and helped with a few and a person's first tile job is alway pretty messed-up. You will need to tear down the old wall, re-install the cement board (very heavy, very cumbersome, don't do it alone), mix the thinset just right, install the tiles just right, wait two days, then grout (it has to be perfect - every step of the way) and seal. You can do it if you can handle a tape measure and a tile cutter. Go to Home Depot and buy a book that gives you step by step instructions. You will need the tile cutter, which you can buy there too. Both are inexpensive. Remember the cardinal rule for any DIY project: "Measure twice, cut once!" You could always have it coated professionally with acrylic. Easier to clean too! READ FROM THIS MANS SITE AND YOU WILL GET SOME IDEAS AND THEN DECIDE. I AM THINKING OF REDOING MINE AND IT DEPENDS ON WHETHER I REDO THE FLOOR AS TO HOW MUCH WORK IT WILL BE. GO TO THE LIBRARY AND GET A FEW BOOKS FOR FREE. i tried to retile my bathroom and made a huge mess. Get a professional. it's work it ! I was going back and forth to home depot, hardware store,etc\.. Factors to consider are: Are there are fixtures and fittings against or on the wall that may need removing to tile behind for the neatest finish, if so would this lead to realigning any pipework. i am a professional and i would not recommend you to try it yourself. |
