How do I change a tub into a shower? |
I want to add a shower to my tub, its a freestanding pedestal type, and all my pipes are outside of the wall, How do I go bout this and what will I need to do it? Can I do it myself? Yes and its easy.Just add a diverter a riser pipe and shower head.If you look at the top of where the tub spout ties to the handles there is probably a plug if you remove that plug and put in a 1/2 in pipe(5ft) then an elbow then the shower arm then the shower head. Then go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a diverter spout(to change with existing spout. If there isn't a plug(old, old style) then just buy the complete outfit(between $100 and $300) Be sure to tape all joints(Teflon) There is a shower curtain hanging kit available that mounts to the celing & is oval shaped. The installation is fairly easy. You may have to replace the faucet assembly to get a shower head installed. If the water pipes are exposed and have threaded (not soldered) joints it is possible for the average do-it-yourselfer. I would call a plumber, just to be on the safe side. I DON'T KNOW HOW? easy way is to get one of the spouts that have a shower head attachment that you can hang on the wall,, there are kits available for claw foot tubs that have everything you need. its simple enough you can do it yourself |
