How can I build a cat tower / tree / house thingy?

I want to build one of those things that cats climb on that has like little platforms or tubes and stuff at different levels -- and then there is a house at the very top.

What would be the easiest way to go about making one of these? I saw one that I really like, but it costs $185 and I just can't afford it.

I already have some carpet that I can use to cover the platforms, etc., but I don't know how exactly I am going to attach it.

Any ideas of how to go about this would be great. I don't want it to look too tacky like it was just thrown together either. I like to make things, so I think I could do a good job if I could just figure out HOW to do it.

Thanks for your input!

Here are some websites that tell you step by step how to make cat trees.

You buy a thing a ma gig,
Attach it to a do hickey,
Then take a thing a ma bob,
and you get a what ya ma call it.

hmm..maybe this will help
