How can I securely lock my door without replacing the handle?

The lock that came with my doorknob has such a lousy keyhole that you could stick a coin in it and turn it to unlock the door.

Is it an interior door or exterior? Interior doors are 1-3/8" thick and exterior doors are 1-3/4" thick. The local home center can guide you to the area to buy a new lock for the thickness you need. I would not suggest putting an alternate lock on the interior of the door like a flush bolt because it won't help if you are away and someone tries to get in the door.

as far as I know you cannot rekey a door knob

spend the 30 - 80 dollars and put a new knob on

You have a bed/bathroom lock. It is not suitable as a security lock. Return it and replace it with a keyed entry lock.

y not installing another deadbold lock on ur door.. its better to have another lock than just the one u have since its always easy to unlock

You can have it re-keyed that will not cost much at all.

from the inside you can install a chain latch/lock or a sliding latch.

you can get and install a dead bolt.

From the out side you can install a latch that you can put a pad lock on.

personally i would rather have a functioning door knob and lock.

The easiest and safest thing to do is to replace it. For thirty dollars you can get a brand new door knob. They're very easy to install.
