How can I make a portable model sweeping staircase for a retail display or where can I buy?

I sell angelic figurines and would like to create a 'stairway to heaven' effect where the angels sit on the stairs. Ideally it would be a romantically sweeping balustrade staircase. Overall the dimensions would be 3 ft wide, 3 ft deep and 4 ft high. I would welcome any suggestions on how to make this a reality or where I can buy such a staircase. Many thanks.

You can draw up some sketches of your ideas and ask around to see if anyone knows of a good blacksmith or metalworker/fabricator in your area. They usually accept orders of custom metalwork, and staircases are normal for them.

If you want one in timber, find a good joiner. Again, discuss the details with him along with some sketches of your ideas.

I see one answer mentions Joiner. That being the case I assume you or the answerer are in the UK???

Here in the states, I was a display designer for many years, and had to fabricate all manner of displays.

Having one crafted in the metal fabrication, might be more than your budget allows, but certainly might last the lifetime of your business.

You don't state if this display will be in a shop, more or less permanent, or one you might want to be portable.

A very simple, inexpensive staircase could be fabricated out of wood framing and foamcore board, then painted. I'll further assume you want the display to be as professional as the items displayed, in which case, unless you have the skills, it may be best to have it crafted by someone else.

In the end the display should never be so wonderful however, as to overwhelm the merchandise.

Here in the states there are many display equipment/props dealers, and I have seen a small version spiral staircase, designed for many items,,,IE: Shoes, figurines, etc. It's design is simple, but very effective.

I'd likely begin with a WWW general search using keywords in the browser, then refine the search as needed.

Going back to the metal craft staircase,,, I suppose it's up to you, to decide costs for promotion, versus sales that will eventually pay for the display, and also can the display be treated like a business expense, for tax purposes, and depreciation issues.
