How do I make a mold for pouring concrete?

I want to make some unique concrete lawn items, and need to know how to make a mold for pouring concrete. How do I get the item out of the mold without breaking the mold?

Most people make molds out of latex with a fiberglass mother mold. Basically you use a little rubber for the detail and the basic shape is held in place with fiberglass. If you want to see pictures of latex/fiberglass molds; go to ebay.com and search 'latex fiberglass' and you will see what they look like.

You can also make molds out of wood. Many of the molds I use are cast aluminum and can last a long time. If you buy molds on ebay, use some caution as the latex molds don't last forever and some "home made" molds are very low quality. Even the metal molds can break and crack but atleast with metal they can be repaired.

not many manufacturers left in business. I think Temple Aluminum Foundery is the only aluminum mold maker still making those types of molds in the US. Report Abuse

There are a number of ways to accomplish this. You can carve you "forms" out of clay and make a plaster mold out of it. (use cardboard like from the back of a writing tablet to make the sides easy to separate.) All the way up to commercial molds made of metal. It's only a matter of money. This is for statues and such.
If it's for something like paving stones you can make it out of wood or flexible plastic and plywood.
It all depends on the project.

google.com or ask.com

Make the mold out of wood, use paraffin as anti sticking agent, and hinges to open the mold at the end of the process.

Put plastic in your mold before you pour the concrete.

i don't know how u make concrete molds, but u can buy them on ebay made out of fiberglass, and latex, and they peel apart when the concrete is done. you can use the mold over and over again. in order to create a mold u have to have an object to create. if u cover it in strips of fiberglass, and then resin, it may work, as long as it does not stick to the object. just guessing tho. u could research making your own molds on the Internet. hope this helps
