What would be the easiest way to stencil?

My 12 yr.old is changing her room up and she wants to stencil stars on the wall. Any tricks as to how this can be done by about 3-4 12 yr. olds. She is having a painting party tonight and to be very honest I'm scared!

i used empty cereal boxes to make the stencils. the plastic coating on the outside makes them perfect for this. i would also make sure to use light colored paints so that if it IS a disaster, you can always paint over it later!!! good luck. even if you end up needing to repaint the whole room later, it will be worth it!!

be sure to take lots of pictures of the whole process so that when she is a teenager and says "why don't you let me do anything fun" you have proof that you did!!!

oops... just re read the question!! she is already a teenager!! still take pictures so when she is mad at you and "forgets" that you let her have fun, you still have proof!!!!

i agree w/ u can make u'r own & make sure lots of drop cloths. Here's a quick way to make stencils of stars.... Sponges. Buy lots of sponges.. give them a pair of scissors..& markers.. let them draw the star on the sponge...cut it out & take a flat pan & let them dip in them then pat on old towel the excess off. Then u would have different variations of stars on the walls. U can even add some paint 2 a pan w/ GLOW IN THE DARK paint in it & have some stars glow when the lts go off.

They will have a blast b/c it's HER room. Thx mom for allowing her to do this. This helps w/ her creativity & self-asteem.

Send me a pix when it done

I prefer the dry stencil paints. They don't drip or run and are easy to use with a stenciling brush. The paint looks like make-up. (rouge etc) "Stir" the brush over the paint surface and then "blot" it onto the wall surface over the stencil.

Go to an arts and crafts store , Lowes or Home Depot and find a stencil pattern that you like (or you can make your own), most will come with fairly simple instructions. The "paints" used for stenciling are easily painted over in you do not like it, just make sure you get some type of dropcloth for mistakes and spills.

Here are a few websites with stenciling information http://www.stensource.com/walltips.htm, http://www.doityourself.com/stry/colorde... http://www.royaldesignstudio.com/tips.as... Have fun and don't worry.....

stenciling is easy and fun,you can buy stencils pre-made or make your own.make sure you put lots of drop clothes down and let the kids have fun.the trick is to blot your stencil brush really well or it will bleed into areas you don't want it to go.you can buy sponge stencil brushes really cheap, you can even cut up a household sponge and use that.so don't be ,scared have fun !
